What is Quinoa?


Quinoa (pronounced KEEN-WAH), which was once an important staple of the Incan culture, has been continuously grown in South America for over 5000 years. The Incas referred to quinoa as chisaya mama or the “mother of all grains”. When the Spanish explorers arrived to South America in the 1500’s, the cultivation of quinoa was brought to a halt however, the crop fortunately survived high in the Andes Mountains and regained popularity in the 1970s and 80s.

Quinoa is a grain that is as adaptable as rice, yet contains every amino acid and is a rich source of protein, iron, magnesium, potassium, and fiber. Our Quinoa originates from the Northern regions of Ecuador amid the Andes Mountains. We only use the best fields to cultivate our quinoa resulting in the best quality product for our consumers.

Our quinoa comes directly from the Andes Mountains of Ecuador and our company focuses on giving back to the local communities.


Quinoa was an important staple of ancient Incan culture and as our society becomes more health-conscious, quinoa is gaining popularity in the United States as well. Quinoa is jam-packed with protein, fiber and many other important nutrients and essential amino acids and is naturally non-GMO and gluten-free. Quinoa is also perfect because it’s an easy-to-cook, versatile food that can be served as a main dish or used as a side with any meal. We also serve other products not traditionally made with quinoa, such as quinoa pasta and quinoa cereal, to make them a healthier option for consumers.

Quinoa is best known as a product from Bolivia and Peru but as its popularity began to rise, the fields of Bolivia and Peru became overworked and overharvested and this compromised the condition of the soil. Ecuador has pure soil that is rich in volcanic nutrients and since Ecuador does not typically export much quinoa, they have a well-grown supply that provides the highest quality quinoa on the market.

We do not buy from large producers of quinoa but rather from local farmers. By buying our quinoa from local, indigenous communities, we are helping to support the local Ecuadorian economy and helping native Ecuadorian communities maintain their heritage.
